Service Basics

What is the main focus of the service?
The main focus of the service is the database of items in the Lovelines catalog. One of the most difficult, time-consuming aspects of a shopping cart installation is getting all of the items into the cart and the corresponding images associated with the items. We've done all of that work!

How is the cart database organized?
Everything in the cart database is referenced via the Holiday Products item number. Each product is defined with the Holiday item number as the primary key.

Can I use my own product names in the cart?
Yes, the cart's flexibility let's you add your own names and information to each product. We will supply a spreadsheet so that you can supply your product-specific information.

In addition to the categories into which Holiday has placed the items, can I use my own category layout and name?
Yes, you can change the category names as you see fit. You can also add new categories and item can be placed into multiple categories.

How will my updated information be added to the cart? Will I have to do that myself?
You will have the opportunity to add your customized information before we populate the shopping cart. This way you can save yourself a ton of money by having the item descriptions, categories, and other information complete before cart goes live. You also have the option of using the cart interface to change information on a product-by-product basis. We will provide a spreadsheet for you to facilitate loading the data.

I don't know how to operate a spreadsheet? Can I still add my data?
We have video tutorials that will take you step-by-step through using the spreadsheet.

How much does all of this cost?
We have several options for you depending on your specific needs.

Can you enhance the cart with advertising displays and videos?
Yes. We have a number of product display formats (like the random product scroller at the top of this page) that can be used for creating product displays. There is a fee for adding some of these displays.

What browsers are compatible with the cart display?
IE-7,8,9 and Firefox. While we do not test Google's Chrome because of such a small market share, we have not heard of any incompatibilities.

With regard to smart-phone browser compatibility, the cart generally works pretty well when used with a single column layout that minimizes the uses of tables and cells. If you absolutely have to have a layout for the phone-based browser and a different one for your web-based browsers we can modify the site structure for a fee. We recommend just using the single column layout rather than adding another layer of site structure. Its much less costly and works quite well.

Hosting

Do you provide hosting services?
Yes, we actually prefer that you host on one of our servers. We've tested the cart extensively on our linux based servers and the cart works flawlessly. In addition, you should not run into any PCI-compliance (credit card security compliance) on our servers.

The cart we provide is a Linux/php/mySQL based platform. If you already have hosting on a Linux server, we can evaluate suitability for the installation. The best installations are on servers using php5.x. We cannot guarantee all aspects of the installation (PCI compliance, for example) on all servers. Some features of the cart may be disabled by your hosting company's policies and restrictions. In most cases there is a work-around solution, but there may be extra charges to deal with these situations.


How much does it cost?
The hosting plan that works best costs $8.95 per month. Other plans, including completely dedicated servers, are available if your situation requires it. Click here to view all hosting options.

Does an SSL come with the hosting package?
You can get one from VideoWebSystems. The Turbo SSL is $29/year.

Can you set up the domain registration, hosting services, SSL, and site certification for me?
Yes.

I already have a site design, graphics, banners, and a logo. Can you use these with the cart?
In most cases, yes. The primary consideration will the the menu system. Because you have to have a rather complex set of menu selections the site design needs to efficiently integrate the links to the cart and products.

The products are divided into over 25 categories and subcategories. By default, the cart comes with a dynamic menu system that you can control via the cart's "Category Administration" panel. If you change, delete, or add a category the menu system is automatically updated. This is the ideal menu solution.

We can usually use buttons and graphics from your current site to customize the menu system. Depending on what needs to be done, there may be a nominal fee to convert graphics and buttons to work with the cart.

The second consideration is page width and "content containers". If you site was written primarily with Flash, Swish, or some other self-contained layout, it MAY be difficult to just drop the cart contents into the layout. If the designer left some flexibility in the layout, it MAY work. Content Containers are used in detailed CSS layouts. Sometimes CSS definitions cause some quirks in the layout. Once again, difficulty of integration is dependent on the designer's layout and style restrictions.


Is there a monthly charge for using the cart?
No, there is only a one-time licensing fee of $150. You own the license, period. The cart comes with a six month free update. You can purchase a year's worth of security updates for about $60. While the cart is very complete, there are some third-party developers that have excellent add-ons to the cart. You may be interested in some of them. The most I've ever paid for such an add-on was a one-time $65 expenditure. Most of the add-ons are less than $40.00. Its like getting custom programming at bargain prices!

Products

What Holiday items are included in the cart?
All of the items that are in the Lovelines catalog are included in the cart. If you carry other items from Holiday you can also add them to the cart. We take the spreadsheet, images, and product information supplied by Holiday and populate the cart with this information. Each item is referenced by the Holiday product number so that you can easily create purchase orders to Holiday based on your cart sales.

Can I control which items are displayed in the cart?
Absolutely. You can remove an item from displaying in the cart with is single click in the product administration page.

Can I add items from other companies?
Yes, but maintenance of these items is your responsibility. If you have a large number of items to add you might want to contact us for services to add these items.

What are the main product display features in the cart?
Here is a list of them. Not all of the features listed are included in the cart installation. For example, you will need to set which items you want as "recommended" or "related".

Can I include a video as part of the product description?
Yes, no problem! The description boxes allow inclusion of html code so you can include a thumbnail and a link to a video or you can even include code to have the video start automatically when the detailed product page is displayed. If you do not have reliable video delivery servers we can provide that service as well.

I already have a shopping cart that I like, but have not been able to get all of the Lovelines items into that cart. Can you do that?
More than likely yes. We would have to make an evaluation with regard to your cart's structure and layout requirements. One of the key considerations is the method your cart uses to handle product options. The cart we've configured assigns product id numbers (the same that Holiday uses) to individual product options. If your cart does not handle this layout option it will be difficult to make a good population of your cart.

Cart Administration

What are the main features of the cart's administration panel?

What options do I have with regard to shipping?
The cart integrates with services from USPS, FedEx, and UPS. We have had outstanding results using USPS along with a plugin to the cart that automatically transfers customer information to the form at the USPS site.

We provide estimated weights with each item to facilitate the use of the integrated shipping services. You will have to fine-tune some of the weight estimates to increase accuracy of shipping estimates.


Can I have more than one login to the admin panel so that an employee can process orders?
Yes, alternate logins with restricted access to specified panels can be established.

Is there a way to have a customer login/account?
Yes, the cart can be configured to force a customer to create an account or shop without an account. Discounts can be assigned to to login levels.


I have distributors and want them to shop at "wholesale". Can this be done?
Yes, wholesale prices can be entered via the product display panel. You will have to supply your wholesale prices prior to uploading the cart or you can enter the prices yourself.

Can pricing be configured for quantity discounts?
Yes, quantity prices can be entered via the product display panel. You will have to supply your quantity breakdowns prior to uploading the cart or you can enter them yourself.

How do I assign discounts and coupons?
There is an entire panel to manage discounts and coupons. They can be assigned based on individual item, category, login level, date-spans, and other paramters.

Payment Processing

How are payments processed?
The cart itself accepts credit cards from a long list of processors.
  • PayPal

  • 2Checkout.com
  • Authorize.net
  • Manual Authorization
  • Pick up and Pay
  • The cart also supports many more processors, so if you are not using one of these just contact us.

I do not have an online gateway for my credit card processing, but I do have an card swipe type machine. Can I just take the credit card information and manually process the card?
Yes. In fact, this is the way most businesses process their credit cards. After you get the card information, you have the option of deleting it immediately or setting a time-span when the card will automatically be deleted.

Is there an option where my customers can create an order and send in a check?
Yes. If your payment process allows for electronic check processing its possible to actually take a check over the internet. Linkpoint, for example, provides this service.

Installation

What is required for installing the cart?
Here are the basic requirements
  • A domain name
  • A hosting account on a Linux based server with php 5.x installed
  • SSL certificate (you won't be able to view credit card data unless you have a secure server certificate


How long does installation take?
Usually the base installation is complete in 3 to 4 days. Fine-tuning and testing will take another couple of days. If you have site design requirements and custom graphics requests installation will take a couple of days longer.

What is included in the maintenance package?
There are two types of maintenance -- cart and data. Cart maintenance is usually only needed every 3 to 4 months. All you need is for your cart update license to be up to date. You can buy a years's worth of security and version updates for about $50. This fee is exactly what it costs PeppersHotStuff to obtain the updates from the software developers.

The second type of maintenance is data maintenance. Holiday regularly sends notifications regarding new items and item availablility. In many cases you can easily do the data maintenance through your administration panel. This maintenance is on an "as needed" basis.
